Instillation of Ear Drops

• STEP 1. Wash hands before and after this procedure
• STEP 2. Lie with ear to be treated uppermost
• STEP 3. Pull the ear up and back to straighten the ear canal
• STEP 4. Instil the ear drops into the ear canal (follow the dose and frequency as labelled on the bottle)
• STEP 5. Massage the front of the ear gently after instillation and remain in this position for 5 minutes
• STEP 6. Place a piece of cotton wool in the ear. This can be removed 20-30 minutes later
• STEP 7. Repeat the procedure in other ear if necessary
